In this episode we are exploring America’s first outlet shopping center in the nation, which is now abandoned. The Liberty Village retail shopping center opened in 1981. The center enjoyed enormous success and expanded in the late 1990s, however, in the years since, the shopping center has struggled to maintain tenants and an adequate amount of shoppers. A developer plans to build 164 townhomes, 3 group homes and a set of apartments. It will also include a 7,500 square foot park and a town hall which the company will donate to the town. The first phase of construction is due to be completed by 2027.
