Its Sunday the 21st of April 2024 and this is The Spiral Spectacular

This excursion run by steam incorporated is taking passengers from Paekakariki to 3 destination options,

The train is lead by DA1410 to Palmerston North

At Palmerston north the DA was turned and placed at the rear of the train while EF30192 is coupled up to lead the train.
This is the first excursion for the newly refurbished unit

Destination option 1 is the National Army Museum at Waiouru
The museum features many fascinating displays with stories and artifacts from major conflicts worldwide

Destination Option 2 is Ohakune the carrot town with a lunch at the Osteria restaurant

Destination Option 3 is to stay on the train all the way to the Raurimu Spiral

Constructed between 1905 and 1907 the Raurimu spiral overcomes a 139 meter height difference with horseshoe curves and a complete loop over itself to maintain a grade of 1 in 50

At Raurimu the EF is run around the train for the return journey as far a palmerston north with the DA taking the train home to Paekakariki
