We're living once. Enjoy your days and the moments in between. In a nice conversation with a grade school friend living in Tennessee, we did a lot of catching up and sharing stories of many of us from the Hood. The people that were interesting, the few that were bullies, the wide variety of personalities that gave us reflection. We had a good long chat. She had a big role in my life at one point. Don't remember if it was 7th or 8th grade when I saved up my lunch money for the longest times and rode my skateboard more than 8 miles each way to buy a pair of Vans shoes. I walked into the shop with a wad of coins and some $1 bills and bought a pair of bright red Vans shoes. I knew nothing of how to dress myself, but sure enough, those shoes made a statement. Wendy walked by me with a couple of her friends as we were passing one another through our middle school outdoor corridor leading to the playground. She says "Hey, Mr. Red Vans"...and that moment stuck with me all this time. We were able to reconnect online decades later and even have a home visit with her and her husband when they were in town.

There was lots to talk about. The world, the town, the home, the self, the universe and all over again in different context.
We're getting older. There are stories to share. I think they're best shared face to face over a meal. We can work our way around other limitations like distance, but technology today can bring every close.
We're living once. Make and share stories that have color, brightness, humanity and creativity wrapped like a blanket on a cool night by a campfire. Boy, do we need them.
