In this video, I delve into the rich history and significance of Vallabhipur, my hometown. Vallabhipur, once a thriving center for Buddhist, Shaivite, and Jain traditions, was located at the foothills of the great Shatrunjaya Mahatirtha. This historic town, now part of Bhavnagar district in Gujarat, India, was the capital of the ancient Maitraka dynasty from 470 CE to around 780 CE. Despite its historical importance, Vallabhipur has not received the recognition it deserves.
I remember my childhood when the textbooks mentioned Nalanda and Taxila, including pictures of those places. However, when Vallabhipur and Valabhi Vidyapeeth were mentioned, there were no pictures of the ruins of Valabhi. This absence left me with a sense of pain and curiosity in my mind.
In 1978-79, an excavation by the Archaeological Survey of India began but abruptly stopped, leaving many artifacts buried and forgotten. Despite repeated requests to various governments and even writing to the Prime Minister, no further action has been taken. The cultural ministry's response about grants for museums has not translated into tangible results for Vallabhipur.

1. **History of Vallabhipur**: Vallabhipur was the capital of western India and Vadnagar, which is currently the hometown of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was the provincial capital of Vallabhi at that time.

2. **Metropolis and Commercial Centre**: Vallabhipur was a big metropolis that was the center of commerce, industry, and religious activities. The Vallabhi Vidyapeeth here was world famous and Chinese travellers Huen Tsang and Fa-Hien have written about it.

3. **Decline and Neglect**: After the decline of Vallabhipur, it was neglected. Excavations were carried out several times but the work was stopped due to lack of grants.

4. **Religious Centre**: Vallabhipur was the historical center of Buddhism, Shaivism, and Jainism. It has an important place in Jain history, where Jain Agamas were written down.

5. **Jainism and History**: Jain Acharyas wrote down the Agamas in 453 AD in Vallabhipur. Here Jain Acharya Shri Mallavadi Ji Maharaj defeated Buddhist Acharya Shri Dharmamottarkirti in a debate.

6. **Letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi**: Nilesh Shah wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to preserve the remains of Vallabhipur in a museum.

7. **Archaeological excavation and grant**: Archaeological excavation work was done several times in Vallabhipur but it was stopped due to lack of grant. At Vadnagar, which is the hometown of the Prime Minister, excavation work was done rapidly and the grant was also received.

8. **Present state of Vallabhipur**: Vallabhipur is still neglected, although its historical importance has been accepted.

9. **Traditions and History**: According to Jain traditions, the third council of Jainism was held in Vallabhipur. It was famous for its Vallabhi University which was in the tradition of Takshila and Nalanda.

10. **Society and Culture**: Vallabhipur had a rich society and culture which are now only seen in ruins. The article also mentions that the remains of Vallabhipur are still alive and they are crying out for a revival of their history.
