At 2.20 a.m. the Titanic was not there.

The people in the boats could see the stars in the night sky, and the black sea, but no Titanic.

The biggest ship in the world was under the sea.

There were more than a thousand people in the water. Most of them had life jackets, so their heads stayed out of the water.

But the sea water was very cold, and nobody could live in it for long.
