Track 8 from their debut album "The Hurting" released in 1983 copyright Mercury Records. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith met as teenagers and the band was formed in Bath, England in 1980. The band's name was inspired by the psychotherapeutic method known as "primal therapy," which was introduced in the 1970's as a way to reconnect with childhood traumas and overcome them. With that in mind, this is a concept album focusing on the mental health issues caused by child abuse, psychological trauma and depression. Despite or maybe because of the dark subject matter, it was quite successful. It reached No. 1 in the U.K. two weeks after its release and was certified Gold after three weeks. At the time reviews were mixed but these days, considering the current musical landscape and lack of originality, it's considered excellent. Overall, it reached No. 73 in the U.S., No. 30 in the Netherlands, No. 16 in New Zealand, No. 15 in Germany and Australia, No. 7 in Canada and No. 1 in the U.K. It's been certified Gold in France and the U.S. and Platinum in the U.K. and Canada. Written by Roland Orzabal and produced by Chris Hughes & Ross Cullum. Featuring:

Roland Orzabal - Lead vocals, lead & rhythm guitars, keyboards, drum machine programming & background vocals, tambourine on "The Prisoner"
Curt Smith - Lead vocals, bass, keyboards & background vocals
Manny Elias - Drums & drum machine programming
Ian Stanley - Keyboard & computer programming
Special Guests:
Chris Hughes - Drum machine programming, percussion & conductor
Ross Cullum - Jazz high, dynamic toggle percussion

Caroline Orzabal - Child's voice on "Suffer the Children"

You walked into the room
I just had to laugh
The face you wore was cool
You were a photograph

(When it's all too late)
(It's all too late)

I did not have the time
I did not have the nerve
To ask you how you feel
Is this what you deserve?

(When it's all too late)
(It's all too late)
(Change) you can change
(Change) you can change

And something on your mind
Became a point of view
I lost your honesty
You lost the life in you

(When it's all too late)
(It's all too late)

We walk and talk in time
I walk and talk in two
Where does the end of me
Become the start of you?

(When it's all too late)
(It's all too late)

(Change) you can change
(Change) you can change

What has happened to
The friend that I once knew?
Has he gone away?

(When it's all too late)
(It's all too late)
(Change)

(Change) you can change
(Change) you can change
(Change) you can change
(Change) you can change
(Change) you can change
(Change) you can change
