Sakura Watch April 20, 2024 - Ep 9 - Trees begin to reach 75% bloom in High Park! Even though it's a cold morning here in High Park, it's not holding back the blossoms from starting to come out. Let's go have a look and see how many blossoms are actually out.

So this morning by the Sports Fields, the blossoms are already at about 70 to 75% open. A couple trees are still lagging behind, but overall it's a good showing for the first day of the bloom.

Here we are looking at Cherry Hill where the trees here are at about 50 to 60% this morning. The cold weather of the last few days and this morning is slowing down the overall Bloom just a touch, but we're still on track for a bloom over the next few days. Trees are already halfway there throughout Cherry Hill, so there's plenty for people here to enjoy, and as you can see behind me, crowds of people have already started to come out, so the 2024 cherry blossom season is now officially begun.

Most of the trees up at the top of Cherry Hill are definitely at 70 to 75% if not a little bit more, um it's a mixed bag going down the hill as some are still at 50 to 60%, but overall there's plenty to see this weekend if you come out to visit High Park.

Here we are by Grenadier Pond, and the trees here as you can see are only at about 40 to 50 % of open blossoms right now, so they will still need a few more days of good sunny warmer weather before they open up, so expect them to be open by early next week.

We are now at the cherry trees by the Jamie Bell Playground and Duck Pond, and as you can see these trees are very much behind. They usually are the last ones to bloom in the park, and currently these ones are only at about 25%, if that, some trees are even just starting to open up in late Stage 5. So these ones definitely will need a few more days for these ones should open up later, probably around Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

So the 2024 Sakura Hanami season has especially begun here in High Park. The trees here on Cherry Hill are roughly at about 70 to 75% in some areas, a little bit less further down the hill, and in the Sports Fields as well, so there's plenty to enjoy.

Hopefully the weather will be sunnier and warmer in the days ahead.
