On October 24, 1998, exactly 69 years from the day of the 1929 stock market crash that led to the demise of the West Baden Spring Hotel, the Moroccan Towers that had been removed from the structure in the 1940's were placed back on top of the historic domed building in southern Indiana. An Erickson sky crane helicopter was brought in from Oregon to lift the tow piece towers to their final resting place atop the seven-story pillars.
Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana became involved in saving the building after a six-story section of the building collapsed in the early 1990s. They funded an emergency repair on a building they didn't own and that led to their purchased of the property In 1996, thanks to a $250,000 donation from an anonymous benefactor. Historic Landmarks then partnered with the Cook Group Inc., a global medical device manufacturing company headquartered nearby in Bloomington, to preserve West Baden Springs Hotel. The $700,000 "Towering Finale" event marked the end of Historic Landmarks & Cook Groups' $30 million renovation.
