This the the largest ever trap on a Venus Flytrap!

“The largest individual trapping leaf from a Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is a specimen of the cultivar “Alien”, which was verified to be 6.1 cm (2.4 in) across the midrib on 7 June 2021. It was grown in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, by carnivorous plant enthusiast Jeremiah Harris (USA),

This bettered the previous record 5-cm (1.96-in) trap, also a specimen of "Alien" grown by Harris, which was measured in Sep 2020.

There are many cultivars of the Venus flytrap and the trap size, shape and colouration varies widely. Typically, though, the snapping traps are around 2–3 cm (0.7–1.2 in) wide across the midrib.

Harris founded the Colorado Carnivorous Plant Society in 2003 and has one of the largest private collections of carnivorous plants in the USA.

The cultivar "B-52" is a favourite selection among Venus flytrap growers. In ideal conditions, it can reportedly produce trapping leaves of similar proportions to "Alien", and perhaps even larger, though none of these claims have yet to be formally measured and verified.”
