FLORIDA: Hurricane Milton is heading for the US coast! Mass exodus from the worst storm in 100 years

In the US state of Florida, preparations for the approaching Hurricane Milton are in full swing: millions of people have been urged to seek safety. Many are barricading their homes and preparing for the worst. The storm, which is expected to hit the west coast of Florida on Wednesday evening (local time), could be one of the most dangerous in the state's history.

The US government has launched a comprehensive relief effort. President Joe Biden postponed his planned visit to Germany to focus on the crisis. The extreme weather is also affecting the election campaign: Florida and other states are still struggling with the destruction left by Hurricane Helene a week and a half ago. This provides Republicans with an opportunity to accuse the Biden administration of not responding adequately.

After “Milton” passed off the coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, there were power outages in around 90,000 households and some flooding in the area. Trees fell over. There were no deaths, said the governor of the Mexican state of Yucatán, Joaquín Díaz.
