Here's me getting absolutely clobbered by Chinook salmon in the Ganaraska River at Port Hope, on the last day of August, 2024. These fish are so strong it's crazy, some went on blistering runs and I couldn't keep up without upsetting a bunch of people.

Multiple hookups and break-offs but only landed one really good fish, that too because of some kind folks who netted it for me :D

00:54 - Fish 0 (small rainbow trout, not a Chinook)
01:30 - Fish 1, broke off
01:47 - Fish 2, broke off
02:26 - Fish 3, broke off
02:45 - Fish 4, broke off
03:56 - Fish 5, very nice fish landed (finally!)

Note: New rules kicked recently closing off this section of the river to fishing from Sep 1 to Oct 15.

3 tips:
• Find a spot with less people. This means less tangles, more chance at fish, less wary fish etc.
• Change something if you're not getting bites. I used a small plastic worm instead of a spawn sac / bead when the bite died - the worm tip was given to me by the much more experienced angler I was sharing the spot with
• Have a landing plan! I didn't have a net so was planning to beach fish on shore, but couldn't do it when I had to walk upstream a bit since the ground didn't slope into the water there

Gear:
• Fenwick 9'6" Med Fast spinning rod
• Pflueger President 35 spinning reel
• 12lb high vis mono main line
• 8lb down to 6lb Drennan flouro leader
• 5g float
• 3-4 BB split shots spaced out on the leader
• Size 8 hooks (I think)
• DJI Osmo Action 3 camera
