A Skin on Frame kayak doesn't need any glue. The flexibility leads to its strength. Tenon joints, wooden dowels and artificial sinew are used to keep the frame together. The covering added in a next step will further increase the stability. Some of those light weight building techniques even found their way to the early aviation industry.
For a finish everything got a coat of tung oil, thinned down with turpentine.
