Wood is naturally a non conductive medium. By applying a conductive solution, high-voltage electricity can flow freely through it. Like water following gravity, weaving its way across the surface of the planet, the resulting patterns are reminiscent of dendrite forms; roots, nerve cells, vascular tissue. The electricity follows along a naturally occurring fractal path. The high current through the resistive wood creates heat which burns the wood resulting in unique designs.
I have been experimenting with the process to create these naturally occurring fractal, tree patterns. Exploring various mediums, different voltages and currents, and chemical additives has shown me the different applications of these high-voltage burn patterns.
Each burn pattern is completely unique, essentially a combination of chance and experimentation. The eventual goal of which is0 to establish an organic circuit across the canvas, while creating a dynamic, interesting aesthetic- blending art and science. This makes my artwork truly one-of-a-kind.
