I've been living here in Alaska for over three years now, and its taken me about that long to realize that it's okay that part of my heart will always belong to the desert. I love Alaska, but the desert was a special place for me. It was there that I found much of the healing I was in need of. It all came from getting out into nature--into the wild places--so I assumed the process would be seamless in coming here to Alaska. What I didn't realize at the time, however, was the importance of honoring not just where we are, but where we came from. Nature continues to help me find my way along, but I've learned that its important that I recognize that my soul was put back together with ancient desert stones mortared into place with sun-baked clay. My path is on new ground, but part of the desert will always be with me. So with this video, I attempted to honor a place that was special to me. Each plant, each rock, each grain of sand were with me during my journey at that time and I couldn't have made it without them.
