From a humble pile of clay in nature,
A master craftsman transforms it into a priceless treasure.
The craftsmanship is dazzling,
After watching the entire process,
I was instantly conquered.
Truly, there are hidden masters among the people.

The master first applies the prepared mud slurry
To the surface of the blank.
With a gentle twist of the wheel,
As the pottery rotates,
The entire outer circle is covered with a milky white slurry.

Next, the master places the pottery outside the window
To proceed to the next step of sun-drying.
After it has naturally air-dried,
The carving and shaping process begins.

The master is carving a scene of fish playing among lotus flowers.
In ancient China, fish and lotus flowers both symbolize good fortune and prosperity.

After two hours of meticulous carving,
The main outline of the pottery pattern is complete.
The master uses a scraper to refine the surface,
Removing all areas outside the pattern.

Once finished, it is placed in the kiln for bisque firing
To allow the surface to solidify.

The pottery is then dipped in glaze slurry
And set aside to air dry.
Wait until the bottom turns white,
And then grind off the outer circle of the bottom.

Once again, it is placed in the kiln for glaze firing,
Maintaining a temperature of around 1300 degrees Celsius.
After a day and night of firing,
The masterpiece is complete.
