Rang Mahal

Rang Mahal is situated in the Valai village near Nowshera. It was built between 1661 and 1681. The site lies in a picturesque narrow valley on the left bank of a seasonal stream which drains the hills around Ziarat Kaka Sahib and joins the River Kabul. In the middle of the valley is a crystal-clear spring which contains Sulphur and is known for curing diseases. The scenic spot within the Khattak territory attracted the attention of Ashraf Khan, the son of the famous poet Khushal Khan Khattak, who developed it as a retreat and dammed the spring water in a reservoir at the back of the palace; and channeled water through conduits that passed beneath the building, keeping it cool in the summers.

The retreat was named after Ashraf Khan’s son Afdal Khan and was called Afdalabad, on the pattern of Aurangabad. With the passage of time, the original name was forgotten and it became known as Rang Mahal (The painted palace) or Valai which is the Pushto word for Spring.

रंग महल नौशेरा के पास वलाई गाँव में स्थित है। यह 1661 और 1681 के बीच बनाया गया था। यह स्थल एक मौसमी धारा के बाईं ओर एक सुरम्य संकीर्ण घाटी में स्थित है जो ज़ियारत काका साहिब के आसपास की पहाड़ियों को खोदती है और काबुल नदी में मिलती है। घाटी के बीच में एक क्रिस्टल-क्लियर स्प्रिंग है जिसमें सल्फर होता है और यह बीमारियों को ठीक करने के लिए जाना जाता है। खट्टक क्षेत्र के भीतर के दर्शनीय स्थल ने मशहूर कवि खुशाल खान खट्टक के बेटे अशरफ खान का ध्यान आकर्षित किया, जिन्होंने इसे एक वापसी के रूप में विकसित किया और महल के पीछे एक जलाशय में वसंत के पानी को नुकसान पहुंचाया; और इमारत के नीचे से गुज़रने वाले नाली के माध्यम से पानी का प्रसारण किया, जो गर्मियों में ठंडा रहता है।

रिट्रीट का नाम अशरफ खान के बेटे अफदल खान के नाम पर रखा गया था और इसे औरंगाबाद की तर्ज पर अफलाबाद कहा जाता था। समय बीतने के साथ, मूल नाम को भुला दिया गया और इसे रंग महल (चित्रित महल) या वेलई के रूप में जाना जाने लगा जो वसंत के लिए पुश्तो शब्द है।
