This blog post I wrote a few years ago probably explains it best. But that was written before I had completed the second half. This bike tour down the West Coast took from November 2015 to November 2017 to complete over the course of two trips.

2015 was a year of trying something different. Something of my own design. An attempt at achieving a personal goal. I had dreamt of doing some type of cross country bike tour ever since making a new friend on our way to work in Antarctica in 2009. That's called never letting go. Of your dreams, we haven't kept in great touch but that's ok you can't talk to everyone all the time.

Three years after finishing this bike trip, I'm just now putting the video together.

That is accomplishing another dream.

I've always wanted to have a travel outlet. A way to share these adventures with the rest of the world. They have shaped my hugely, studying abroad, meeting strangers, working abroad, just finding out how the world works. I don't pretend to understand it, but I am not as blind as I used to be.
One thing I've learned, is you can never have enough footage. I thought this video would be infinitely longer when I saw I had 4.5 hours of footage. So much so that I decided early on not to include still photographs.

However, when you cut it down you realize just how little you actually have. And I'll be honest, once we got on the road it wasn't about making a film, it was about making those miles. Rain, wind, cold, over the weeks and months it took to complete it I often forgot about making something to show the world. Sometimes, I just wanted to reach the end.

Which I did. I rode my bike into Tijuana on the highway with the rest of the cars. Border patrol was not pleased...but we bonded over the Lebanese music he was listening to so all was good.

Trust me, the tacos were worth the ride.

Watch, get inspired, and when you can do so safely get out and have yourself an adventure. We need a little more of that in the world today.
