"Explore Surrey’s Charming Villages: A Perfect Day Trip Route"

We started from Shalford Park, Chilworth, St. Martha’s, Albury, Shere, and Gomshall, enjoying excellent views of the landscape. It was a little rainy, but overall a fine day. We really enjoyed these places and highly, highly recommend them to anyone who hasn’t been here before. Please wear proper shoes and bring some snacks with you. The villagers are incredibly helpful and kind. If you need any guidance or assistance, they are happy to help. Please respect the areas you walk through, especially in regards to the animals.

Shalford Park: Located near Guildford, Shalford Park was historically used for agricultural purposes and later transformed into public recreational space. It played a role in local industry, particularly with nearby Shalford Mill, an 18th-century watermill owned by the National Trust.

Chilworth: Famous for its gunpowder mills, Chilworth was a major center of gunpowder production from the 17th century until the late 19th century. The ruins of the mills can still be explored, giving insight into its industrial heritage.

St. Martha's Hill: This hilltop, crowned by the historic St. Martha-on-the-Hill Church, offers spectacular views and dates back to Saxon times. The church is thought to sit on a site with ancient religious significance, potentially pre-Christian.

Albury: A charming village with a strong connection to Albury Park, which was designed by Sir John Soane. Albury also holds historical importance due to its association with the 17th-century philosopher and mystic William Law and the Albury Conferences, significant for the development of the Catholic Apostolic Church.

Shere: Shere is an iconic medieval village, often used as a filming location. Its Norman church, St. James, dates back to the 12th century. The village has a rich history, with connections to the wool trade and medieval pilgrimage routes.

Gomshall: Gomshall was a milling village, known for its historical mills along the River Tillingbourne. The Gomshall Mill, now a pub, has roots going back to the 17th century, reflecting the village's agricultural past.#SalfordToGomshall #VillageByVillageWalk #UKWalkingAdventures HiddenGemsUK #CountrysideChronicles #NatureNookUK WanderlustInTheUK #trailtales
