#med (Music.Every.Day)

Day 236 of my daily video posting project. I have been working on this project since November 2023--posting a video of piano music every single day!

Today's video is "Cascades" by Scott Joplin. This arrangement comes from the collection "All-American Ragtime: Volume One".

Thanks to the generous gift of a former piano student, I hopped on Amazon and purchased myself a page turning pedal! I can finally play longer songs without doing awkward finger sweep page turns. (There have been so many past video takes ruined because of pages that didn't turn when they were supposed to!!).

It took a bit of practice and co-ordination, but now I can view complete pages of music on my i-Pad pro which saves any eye-strain. I had tried a page turning pedal before, but found it really difficult to use. The previous model had a tiny, squishy button that didn't trigger consistently. This new one is by Yueyinpu - P33-01 and I love it!

I thought I'd test it out with some Ragtime!! (I'm guessing another good test would be to play some Bach--it probably would have been very useful for the Italian Concerto for one!). For "Cascades" - the tempo indication is "Tempo di Marcia (in March tempo)". Ragtime is all about pacing yourself like a marathon--there are big octave jumps and big chords in this piece, and it starts out deceptively simply. (Most of his ragtime pieces start that way!). You'll understand my tempo choices when you hear pages three and four!

Enjoy!

Tune in tomorrow for more of my #music.every.day experiment!
