Οι Φούρνοι είναι ένας σχηματισμός από μικρά νησιά και βραχονησίδες, από τα οποία κατοικούνται μόνον δύο: το ομώνυμο και η Θύμαινα. Εδώ δεν έχει «αξίζει να δεις» αλλά «αξίζει να ζήσεις»… τις πιο ήσυχες και ανέμελες διακοπές!

Η κύρια ασχολία των ντόπιων δεν έχει τις ρίζες της στη γη, αλλά στη θάλασσα. Το νησί διαθέτει μεγάλο αλιευτικό στόλο - δυσανάλογο με το μέγεθός του - και έχει εξελιχθεί σε ένα από τα σημαντικότερα κέντρα αλιείας του Αιγαίου. Γι΄ αυτό και είναι ο παράδεισος των ψαροφάγων, με μοναδικές ευκαιρίες απόλαυσης ψαριών πρώτης διαλογής, θαλασσινών, με τους αστακούς σε αφθονία.

Μικρό νησί με μεγάλη ιστορία, οι Φούρνοι, είναι διάσπαρτοι με αρχαία ευρήματα από την εποχή των Ιώνων, τους κλασικούς και τους ελληνιστικούς χρόνους: Κυκλώπειο τείχος με ίχνη ακροπόλεως στο Λόφο του Άη Γιώργη, λείψανα αρχαίου ναού στο Καμάρι και ερείπια κατοικιών στο βυθό της θάλασσας, λατρευτικός βωμός του Ποσειδώνα στην Αγία Τριάδα της Χρυσομηλιάς, αρχαίο λατομείο στο Πετροκοπιό.

Ιδανικό ορμητήριο για τους πειρατές του Μεσαίωνα, χάρις στα εκατοντάδες μικρά φιόρδ και τις αθέατες ακτές που έκρυβαν τα πλοία τους, οι Φούρνοι λέγονταν κάποτε «Κορσεοί νήσοι» από το κούρσεμα, την πειρατεία.

Στο Καμπί, η παραλία του, με ψιλή άμμο και σκιερά αρμυρίκια, είναι η εύκολη επιλογή για μπάνιο, σε όσους έχουν ήδη προσαρμοστεί στο χουζούρεμα του τόπου.

Η αληθινή αποκάλυψη είναι η Χρυσομηλιά, συνθέτει έναν παράδεισο ησυχίας με πολλές παραλίες ολόγυρα και το πιο γραφικό αλιευτικό καταφύγιο του Αιγαίου.

Η ακτογραμμή των Φούρνων, με τους αμέτρητους ορμίσκους και τα κανάλια που χώνονται σα μαχαίρια στην ξηρά, έχει μήκος 120 χιλιομέτρων. Ιδανικά αραξοβόλια για όλους τους καιρούς είναι το Καμάρι, το Ελιδάκι και το Μπαλί. Υπέροχες παραλίες για μπάνιο είναι η Ψιλή Άμμος, η Βλυχάδα, το Πετροκοπιό, ο Κάλαμος και η Βιτσιλιά.

Μια βόλτα στη Θύμαινα και την Κεραμιδού δεν πρέπει να παραλειφθεί. Ένα μικρό ανεξάρτητο νησί 150 κατοίκων, ανεπηρέαστο από την τουριστική εξέλιξη των τελευταίων δεκαετιών, προσφέρει απλόχερα εικόνες αυθεντικής ηρεμίας και γαλήνης σε όποιον επιλέξει να την εξερευνήσει.

There is only one way to travel back in time and experience old Greece up close: take a ship and get off at Fournoi!

The place is pregnant with history: there are ancient finds scattered throughout the island dating back to the Ionians, Classical and Hellenistic times. The Cyclopean wall with traces of an Acropolis on the Hill of Ai Giorgis, the ruins of the ancient temple at Kamari and the remains of homes on the sea bed, the shrine to Poseidon at Agia Triada in Chrysomilia, the ancient quarry at Petrokopio.

As a matter of fact, Fournoi is not just one island, but a formation of small ones, of which only two are inhabited: Fournoi and Thymaina. Islands of fishermen and beekeepers, they provide visitors with all basic comforts. Campos, the island's main village, offers tavernas, patisseries, shops selling traditional products, a soft drink bottling workshop and, of course, bakeries (fournoi in Greek). The main occupation of the locals, however, is not related to the land, but to the sea. The island has a large fishing fleet – disproportionate to its size – and has developed into one of the most important fishing centres in the Aegean. For this reason it is heaven for those who love fish in their diet, with unique opportunities to enjoy top quality fish, sea food and lobsters.

An ideal base for pirates in the Middle Ages, due to the hundreds of small fjords and hidden beaches where their ships could be concealed, Fournoi were once called “Corseoi Islands”, after corsairs, i.e. pirates.

In Kampi, the beach, with fine sand and salt cedars casting lush shadows, is an easy choice for a swim for those who have already adapted to the snoozing that is part of life on this land.

The real revelation, however, is Chrysomilia. It is a paradise of peace and quiet, with many beaches all around and the most picturesque fishing boat haven in the whole of the Aegean.

The shoreline of Fournoi, with countless coves and canals that stab inland, like knives, into the island, is 120 kilometres long. Ideal moorings for all weather are Kamari, Elidaki, and Bali. Wonderful beaches for swimming are Psili ammos, Vlychada, Petrokopio, Kalamos and Vitsilia.

A stroll in Thymaina and enchanting Keramidou should not be missed. A small independent island of 150 people, unaffected by the tourism development of recent decades, it generously offers images of authentic peace and serenity to anyone who chooses to explore it.
