We're taking another look at the Aolithium battery and its JBD BMS. This time we have fully charged the battery and are watching the top balance of the cells begin. In the previous test we have completely discharged all cells and measured their capacity. After connecting all cells back together, the pack is basically bottom balanced (all cells empty) and it now drifts a lot at the top end. It's very interesting to see how the JBD BMS handles the situation. Unfortunately, the default settings of the BMS prevent it to succeed with a proper balancing of the cells. Aolithium chose to enable Charge Balance in the BMS which means it will only balance while charging. We have seen this in the DALY BMS before and the balancing results were not good!
With only one little settings change we can make the JBD BMS great again. After the change, it has no problem to balance even the 100Ah cells with its tiny 60mA balance current. I show you how you can use pretty much any BMS (except DALY) to auto top-balance your battery over night.

The 'Charge Balance' setting seems left over from a previous century. It just does not cut it for me...
