The BMW M5. Just the name itself sends shivers down the spines of driving enthusiasts. It's a legend, a four-wheeled embodiment of power, handling, and that glorious, guttural roar of a high-performance V8 engine. So, when the wraps came off the 2025 M5, the world held its breath. And what did we see? Well this new M5 continues the legacy of monstrous power, but with a twist, it’s a hybrid, its this good, well lets get into that.

So Let's get the headline stat out of the way first – the 2025 M5 is the most powerful M5 ever. We're talking a combined output of 717 horsepower and a staggering 738 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to make your internal organs do a happy dance (or launch you from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds). But here is the thing it might be the most powerful M5 ever but it certainly isn’t the fastest. Why is that? Well she is heavy. While pre-production drives have been surprisingly positive, the question remains: will the hefty curb weight of 5390ibs or almost 2.5 tons translate to a cumbersome experience on the road? Well I can already tell you its 0-60 is actually slower than that of its predecessor with the old model doing the same sprint in just 2.8 seconds. That’s more than a half a second difference. Which isn’t ideal. This weight will also effect cornering because stoping and turning a car with such heft is just more difficult.
