Well, we certainly didn't feel the effects of Helene the way they did further south, and it's kinda hard for the untrained eye to tell the difference, but the Mid-Atlantic was definitely "swelly", "choppy", and churned up. You have no idea. There was one giant continuous rip current. Couple states away. The undertow was so strong, it tugged forcefully at my shins while standing in less than waist deep water. A couple people were swimming that week, but few past their waist or chest. Even a good swimmer would easily get pulled out by those rips. Always understand current conditions. Check updates for flood, rip, or small craft warnings. Look for the rips before you swim!
