If you are interested in louder sound and more bass, then for the same budget, Floorstanding speakers are likely to give better performance, but if you are interested in sound quality, and balanced sound, then Bookshelf speakers at the same budget will give a better sound quality, because Bookshelf speakers only need 4 speakers and one small audio crossover, but in the case of Floorstanding speakers, the same amount has to be divided over more speakers, a larger audio crossover and a larger speaker box. Bookshelf speakers can sound better than full size Floorstanding speakers. Of course, when you buy Bookshelf speakers, you need a place to put them, a big table or you have to buy speaker stands. Because you won't get the best sound from Bookshelf speakers if you push them into bookshelves, but it all depends on the quality of the components, the price so to speak. If the budget is high, then quality tower speakers are of course a better choice, as the main problem with Bookshelf speakers is to deliver quality low frequencies, because the whole frequency range of a Bookshelf speaker has to be covered by two speakers, which is not easy and causes problems.
