We've all played on or heard of the ZX Spectrum. The graphics lacked colour, but the sprites were nearly always detailed. Yes, the resolution wasn't great when compared to modern-day gaming. But simplicity won the day. For the most part, you had to use your imagination. Games such as Gauntlet, R-Type, and Renegade delivered a fantastic arcade experience. Laser Squad and Rebel Star were turn-based pioneers and delivered on originality. These were the best of times, these were the worst of times.
