"Pongtu" is blend with two words "Pong" which means Wind'
and "Tu" which means 'Retreating'. 'Kuh' means 'Festival
The origin of the festival is rooted on three circumstances:
1. Jumju (bidding grand farewell to the souls of the dead and to the old year )
2. Pongtang-Phattang (retreating of wind & storm; and offering prayer to Rang-Kho-
Thak-Rang to safeguard from storm and epidemic)
3. Rom-hon (the rituals for wellbeing & prosperity; and prayer for new beginning/ new.

Tutsa Pongtu, the main
festival of the Tutsa community was celebrated at Khonsa in Tirap district.
