Alex Morgan sits down with Canal + Sports Direct to give an exclusive halftime interview during the 2nd leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (“UWCL”) Quarterfinals against second-ranked Frauen-Bundesliga opponenet VFL Wolfsburg (“Wolfsburg” OR “WOLB”) held on March 29th, 2017 at home by Olympique Lyonnais Feminine (“OLF”) at Parc Olympique Lyonnais (“Parc OL”), a 59,186-seat stadium in Décines-Charpieu, a suburb of Lyon, France nicknamed the Grand Stade and the Stade des Lumières. Morgan candidly discusses her experience in Lyon four months into her six month contract, the difficulty she first faced adjusting to French life and a new team, the progress she's made in her technical soccer abilities, the wealth of opportunity she’s given both on and off the pitch that is not afforded to all female professional footballers, how she is helping grow the game of soccer globally as is club President Jean-Michel Aulas by equally investing in the men and women and the fact that her main reason for deciding to join OLF was to play in and win the UWCL. Alex applauded the efforts of other top English and European women’s clubs such as Chelsea Ladies FC, Man City Women’s FC, Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona among others for investing so deeply in the women’s game, which she hopes will lead to greater parity and attract a broader audience moving forward. OLF are the defending UWCL (“European Cup” or “Coupe de Europe”) winners, claiming the title in 2016 along with the D1 Feminine League and French Cup (“Coupe de France”) titles, as well to complete the Championship Treble (“Triple”). Even though OLF fell to Wolfsburg 1-0 on the night due to a reckless defensive miscue by defender and Canadian International, Kadeisha Buchanan, which resulted in a penalty kick giving the German side the win, the Lyon women moved onto the semifinals on goal difference having scored two away in the first leg (away goals count double) by Camile Abily and Dzsenifer Marozsán. In the next round, OLF are likely to meet English FA Women’s Super League Division 1 (“FAWSL1”) leaders, Manchester City (“Man City” or “MCWFC”) and the club’s newest signing, Houston Dash midfielder and USWNT captain, Carli Lloyd. Usually teammates, Lloyd, the two-time reigning FIFA Female World Player of the Year “WPOTY” and Morgan the “face” of women’s soccer around the world will now go head-to-head as opponents.
