How to Replace RV Bed Support Gas Struts
Have you replaced your RV mattress and now are having a hard time getting to your storage under the bed? Can you just not get it up? In this video I'm going to show you how to get it up again
So we all know that the thing that sucks the worst about new RV's is the mattress that comes in them right. So one of the first things that we usually do is upgrade the mattress or at least get a topper. I always recommend getting a new mattress, because in my opinion a decent quality topper is going to get you at least half way there price wise and it's still not going to be as comfortable. I know this from experience.

The problem with upgrading the mattress is that it's usually more weight than the original mattress. Which you do have to keep in mind for your overall camper weight, but more so is that it is too much weight for the air shocks that hold the bed up. All it takes is popping out the clips on each side of the air shock and putting some stronger ones on. There are companies that specialize in this, but you don't have to get anything special. All you need is to measure the length from the center to the center of the mounting points when it is fully extended. It will also usually tell you how many pounds it is set at mine were set at 60 lbs. You can always look up the part number which will give you all of the specifications of the shock. I actually did this with my camper in the parking lot over at shelburne rv just to make sure they worked properly. All you have to do is increase the pressure. I increased mine to 90???? lbs. They did have one in stock that was a step in between 60 and 90???? but I just wanted to go big or go home. They worked great and the bed stays up by itself just like it's supposed to.

Now that I'm able to get it up again, lets talk about problems that this can cause. Sometimes the mounting points aren't strong enough on the bed, especially on the part that the mattress rests on. I've not had any issues, but I have seen people have to add a piece of wood in order to keep the screws from ripping out.

Hopefully this helped you get started in fixing this problem for yourself.
