Poem by Kathleen Kraft
Light rail tracks disappear into the distance —
sapling, cross street, strip of river,
car with one headlight in the blackening heat.
We end our Sunday cooling down the heat,
tuck ourselves away into sleep-filled distance.
Each of us turning, rippling toward our own river.
I dream of swimming with the current downriver
as the light lazes to afternoon heat,
city memory muddy in the distance.
Come, find me in my distant river, rising in the afternoon heat.
