The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has introduced a stricter system for vehicle registration and number plates, with the aim of streamlining the process and ensuring compliance. The Excise and Taxation (E&T) department is at the forefront of implementing these new rules, which will have a direct impact on vehicle owners in the city. One of the most significant changes is the crackdown on substandard number plates. Vehicles with such plates will face cancellation of registration, and owners will be required to pay hefty re-registration fees to rectify the situation. The re-registration fee will vary based on engine capacity.
Owners of vehicles with engines up to 1,000 cc will have to pay Rs. 5,000. Those with engines between 1,000 and 2,000 cc will face a hefty fee of Rs 10,000. For vehicles with engines above 2,000 cc, the heavy re-registration fee is Rs 20,000, even for motorcycles. Exemption has not been given, the re-registration fee is Rs.1000. The matter does not end here for repeat violators. If a vehicle is found violating the new rules more than once, the owner will be fined five times the original amount. All vehicles plying must follow the prescribed rules. While the changes may inconvenience some vehicle owners, they are expected to bring a more streamlined and organized transportation system to the city.
