The last time the San Francisco Giants had the No. 13 overall pick, the year was 2022 and they selected Patrick Bailey. Previously, the last time the Giants took a player out of Florida State University, they selected Buster Posey No. 5 overall. The SF Giants' No. 13 pick on Sunday night wasn't a catcher, but it was a well-rounded, polished outfield bat that fits well into their system.

With the Giants' second pick—which came in the fourth round since they lost their second and third round picks due to signing qualifying offer free agents—the team selected Mississippi State outfielder Dakota Jordan 116th overall despite his ranking as MLB.com's No. 34 overall prospect. This makes Jordan a potential major steal for the San Francisco Giants.

It's worth noting that the Giants' front office has taken criticism for poor drafting under the Farhan Zaidi-led regime. However, that notion is beginning to change as the SF Giants have had recent success with the likes of Bailey, Kyle Harrison, Hayden Birdsong, and others. The narrative is certainly changing for the Giants and their draft picks, and only time will tell if that trend continues following the Giants' 2024 draft.
