Françoise Gilot is a French post-World War II painter. At the age of 21, she met Pablo Picasso and the two artists began a 10-year relationship around art. Gilot is considered by some to be his muse and although Gilot's work was influenced at this time by Picasso's Cubism, his paintings are characterized more by natural forms than Picasso's sharp angles. In 1953, Gilot left Picasso and took their two children, Claude and Paloma, with her. 11 years later, she published the bestseller 'Vivre avec Picasso'. Gilot has studios in La Jolla, New York and Paris. Her late paintings feature saturated colors and structured compositions and she is also interested in monographs and aquatints. Born November 26, 1921 in Neilly-sur-Seine, Gilot continues to exhibit her work internationally.
