Kep is the smallest province in Cambodia, originally part of Kampot until it became a separate province in 2008. Its unique geographic location has it entirely surrounded by Kampot, except for its western coastline.

Few travelers visit Kep directly from other locations, but those visiting Kampot often plan at least a day to savor the freshest crabs in Kep.

For travelers wanting to see freshly caught crabs, it's best to arrive at the market early. You can witness merchants standing in the water, using special bamboo baskets to hold the crabs, and customers selecting crabs directly "on the sea"—it's an incredible experience! Unfortunately, I arrived too late that day, and the coast near the market was fenced off, so I missed this sight.

Here's a suggested one-day itinerary:

In the morning, visit the crab market to browse and buy seafood (the earlier, the better), then head to the coast for lunch and enjoy delicious seafood with a "Western" vibe.
After lunch, stroll along the coastline, visit the statue of the White Lady, play at the beach, or take a nap under the trees.
Around 3 PM, take a boat to Rabbit Island, enjoy the island until about 5 PM, then return to Kep.
