Bertie Fisher only competed in one round of the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship in 1997 but he made it count, leading from the front to take a commanding Circuit of Ireland win. Behind him, Austin McHale, James Cullen, Stephen Murphy, Eamonn Boland and Liam O’Callaghan all gave chase in their Group A supercars but none of them could prevent Fisher from taking a then record breaking eighteenth Irish Tarmac Rally Championship event win.
