History and traditions of the Armenian people from ancient times to modern times.
Armenians always stood out in a large family of Caucasian peoples. They have a unique past, moreover, they were able to make their own contribution to the history of other ethnic groups.

Many customs, their cultural heritage entered the treasury of world culture. As for the kitchen, here we can assume that they had an impact on the gastronomic preferences of the whole region.

The origin of the people and language.

Some historians consider the Phrygians to be the ancestors of modern Armenians. In any case, it was this people in the middle of the first millennium BC that began the migration from the territory of the Balkan Peninsula closer to the territories of Asia Minor. This is # mysterious, # ancient ethnos and # Armenians have something in common - or rather, language.

The origins of the Armenian language.

According to the researchers, the # Phrygians were speakers of the Proto-Armenian language. In the XIII century BC, they moved to the Armenian Highland and chose for themselves the northern region of today's Armenia, which, both in antiquity and today, is known for its fertile lands. Thus, the Armenian language can be considered one of the oldest in the world.

Surprisingly, the Phrygians were able to preserve the basic elements of their language, despite the fact that over time they completely assimilated with the population that already lived here. In the Armenian Highlands there lived, besides them, the Luvians (a people related to the Hittites), the Hurrians, and the Urartians, who are considered to be the creators of one of the most powerful states in antiquity - # Urartu.

All these ethnic groups were able to coexist peacefully and eventually formed the Armenian people. Therefore, speaking today about Armenians, researchers consider them as representatives of a huge ethnic and cultural stratum, because they are carriers not only of the ancient language, but also the genetic heirs of an entire era in the history of Asia Minor.

There are other versions - for example, some scholars see connections with other ethnic groups - Io-Iranian and Greek. If these historians are to be believed, then the Armenian people was formed in the XXII century BC and, thus, was a carrier of Proto-Indo-European language, spreading it from the Armenian Highland throughout the whole of modern Europe and Middle Asia.

The history of the Armenians is confirmed, as the ancient Greek sources, or rather, the works of # Xenophon and # Herodotus, and the Babylonian.

Ancient history of the descendants of the Phrygians.

In the 6th century BC The state of Urartu collapsed, after which the territory of the Armenian Highland fell under the authority of the Persian Ahemenid dynasty. In the V century before the emergence of Christianity, Armenians took part in the campaign of Xerxes, and a century later they recognized the power of Alexander the Great, although this conqueror could not subdue them.

The Middle Ages and the new history.

In the XIV century, # Armenia began to experience serious problems of a political nature, as new conquerors entered the world scene. This time among them was #Tamerlane, and then the Ottoman #Empire declared its claims on their territory. Here they had to face the impact not only on their statehood, but also on culture, and, more importantly, on religion.

Religion and faith of the Armenian people.

Surprisingly, however, for a long period of Persian and Ottoman rule, the majority of Armenians did not change their faith. Today, most people are Christians. Once in the territories occupied by them today, pagan cults were confessed, including Zoroastrianism.

Culture, life, traditions and customs.

Many modern traditions of # Armenians originate in antiquity. They were able to preserve their culture and customs, which in some of their manifestations differ from the customs of other Caucasian peoples, but do not enter into discord with them.

What are modern Armenians like?

Armenians are an integral part of modern society. They can equally be attributed to the European and Eastern ethnic groups. To date, their number can not be accurately calculated, however, according to statistics, in the world up to 10 to 12 million representatives of this people. They live in many countries, ranging from Russia to Brazil and Australia. And everywhere they bring a touch of Armenian flavor, which is undoubtedly worthy of respect.
