Video tutorial of the Half Brioche Stitch. This is a simpler version of the Brioche stitch. It provides a fabric that lays flat, is quite stretchy, and unlike the Brioche stitch, it has a different look on each side. Great pattern to knit a scarf, a cowl, or even a wrap/stole.

Stitch pattern (stitch is worked on an even number of stitches; pattern is a 2-row repeat; level: advanced beginner).
Abbreviations: BRK=brioche knit; K=knit; K1tbl=knit the stitch through the back loop; P=purl; sl=slip 1 stitch purlwise; sl1wyif=slip 1 stitch purlwise with the yarn in the front; st=stitch.

Cast on an even number of st using any cast-on method of your choice (I typically use the long-tail cast-on method; video link to that technique is below). You can use regular needles; you don’t need double-pointed needles; I like using them for my demos (:

Row 1: Sl1, *sl1wyif, K1. Repeat from * until the last st, then K1tbl.
Row 2: Sl1, *P1, BRK. Repeat from *until the last st, then K1tbl.

Repeat Rows 1-2 for the Half Brioche Stitch Pattern. When done knitting, suggest ending on Row 2 and then cast off using regular bind off or any bind-off method of your choice. No blocking needed.

Optional: if you don’t wish to slip the first st and K1tbl for last st, can simply do regular knit for the first and last st on each row.
