Whatever the hobby, it is far too easy for it to become all about buying new things instead of using and enjoying what we have. Woodworking is no different. Every woodworking magazine, youtube video, Facebook group, and wood working forum seems to leave the same impressions: what you have just isn't good enough and you NEED this new, better, earth-shaking tool to be a good woodworker. I think it's time for us to get back to the basics and understand that, while there's nothing wrong with getting new tools, it is amazing what you can do with just a little creativity. You can make things without expensive tools. Sure, a new table saw or miter saw or bandsaw or sander might make things faster, easier, or more accurate. There may even be some things beyond your skillset right now if you can't use the latest tool to help you out. But with some practice and outside-the-box thinking, you might be amazed to find out the awesome things you can make without giving in to the latest Youtube buying "advice."
