VN24 - 16.03.2022 - Rüthen / Germany - On the country road L776 / Provinzialstraße between the villages of Bestwig and Rüthen (district of Soest), a truck left the roadway at about 18:45 h and drove into a forest. The accident occurred when another truck overtook the dump truck shortly before a left-hand bend. Before completing the overtaking maneuver, the 68-year-old man swerved his vehicle back to the right too soon because a car was oncoming. This resulted in contact with the dump truck, which went out of control and drove off the road to the right into the forest, where it knocked down numerous trees and was stopped by them. The 56-year-old dump truck driver sustained minor injuries in the accident and was taken to a hospital. During the salvage operation the next morning (March 17) starting at 08:00 h, so many tree roots threatened to get wedged under the chassis when the truck was pulled back with a recovery vehicle that two cranes had to be called in to lift the fully loaded dump truck out the top.
