13 May 2013 -- The Catholic Community at Stanford presents a lecture by Catherine Cornille. This is one of a series of talks in the course "Vatican II: Catholicism Meets Modernity", offered Spring 2013.

Though the shortest of Vatican II documents, Nostra Aetate (Declaration on Non-Christian Religions) has generally been regarded as one of the most radical and innovative documents, a watershed in the relationship of the Church to non-Christian religions. In this lecture, we will explore the contents and the context of the document, its impact on theological reflection regarding the question of the salvation of non-Christians, and its role in advancing dialogue with non-Christian.

Catherine Cornille is Professor of Comparative Theology and chair of the Department of Theology at Boston College. Her teaching and research focus mainly on methodological questions in the study of religions, inculturation, interreligious dialogue and comparative theology. She is author of The Im-Possibility of Interreligious Dialogue (2008) and of several edited volumes, including Song Divine: Christian Commentaries on the Bhagavadgita (2006), Criteria of Discernment in Interreligious Dialogue (2009), and The World Market and Interreligious Dialogue (2011). She is also editor of The Blackwell Companion to Interreligious Dialogue, which will appear in early 2013.
