গাজীপুর সদর থানা বিএনপির সভাপতি আজমল ভুঁইয়া গাজীপুর সিটি নির্বাচনে ২৮ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডের কাউন্সিলর প্রার্থী হয়েছেন৷ তিনি ওই ওয়ার্ডের তিনবারের নির্বাচিত কাউন্সিলর৷ তিনি বলেন, ‘‘কেন্দ্র বা মহানগর বিএনপি থেকে আমাদের নির্বাচনে প্রার্থী হতে নিষেধ করা হয়নি৷ আবার প্রার্থী হতে বলাও হয়নি৷ তাই আমি প্রার্থী হয়েছি৷ আর সাধারণ মানুষ আমাকে সমর্থন করেন৷ তারাও চান আমি প্রার্থী হই৷''
