The Stadium of Light resembled a boxing announcement tonight as the Championship's two tightest defences and two most lethal attacks met and something had to give between Sunderland vs Leeds United

Sunderland targeted Meslier from corners and kept a tight, low defence out of opposition, but it was the Black Cats who started the faster of the two sides, putting fluid attacking movements together and opening the scoring convincingly with Chris Rigg netting his second goal in three games.

Leeds were forced wide in by a rigid Sunderland defence between the 18 yard lines, but found some luck with a deflected interception for Gnonto to find Joel Piroe and level the scores. Leeds then pressed the play and dominated possession, with Sunderland struggling to find their rhythm and playing far too anxiously in their efforts to take the lead.

As half time approached Sunderland found their form again, but after the break both sides rode their luck and benefitted for unexpected moments. See just how it happened, why Piroe's goal stands and Firpo's shouldn't whilst we all wonder just what Regis Le Bris has on Ilian Meslier to make him toss the ball in his own net at the end.
