While the name Sanjay Leela Bhansali is synonymous with royalty and grandeur, the production of Heeramandi is said to be his most ambitious yet; spread across eight one-hour-long episodes on Netflix. Set to release on the first of May, ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ is a series that brings to life a bygone era of courtesans and nawabs. Set in a pre-independent India, ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ will see the hub of arts and culture in Lahore reimagined. The story follows the influential tawaifs or courtesans who were said to have amassed power akin to nawabs. Portrayed by a star ensemble cast of Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh, and their power struggles and turmoil during a time of societal and political conflict.
