The new 2025 Lucid Gravity is an exciting addition to the growing lineup of luxury electric SUVs. As the second model from the California-based EV startup Lucid Motors, the Gravity aims to build on the success of their impressive Air sedan by offering similar high-end features and technology in an SUV package.

Visually, the Gravity shares the flowing, futuristic design language of the Air, with an elongated silhouette and wide front and rear treatments. The interior also mirrors the Air, with a very tech-focused cockpit featuring a unique squared-off steering wheel and horizontal touchscreen display. Lucid touts class-leading legroom, cargo capacity and interior storage thanks to the skateboard EV platform. Up to seven seats can be configured, with fold-flat rear seats promising massive cargo flexibility.

The powertrain specs are also mightily impressive. Lucid says the AWD Gravity will make over 800 horsepower, hit 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds and offer a driving range of over 440 miles. That's thanks to the same 900+ volt architecture as the Air. DC fast charging will add 200 miles in just 15 minutes. Towing capacity is a stout 6,000 pounds. An adjustable air suspension provides a smooth ride and improved efficiency.

On the tech side, the Gravity will feature Lucid's DreamDrive advanced driver assistance system, an enormous glass roof, and immersive interior experiences like guided meditation. Active safety features should mirror the comprehensive suite offered on the Air.

Overall, the Gravity aims to compete strongly with the aging Tesla Model X, Volvo EX90 and Mercedes EQS SUV, as well as the upcoming Kia EV9. While the $80,000+ pricing isn't exactly attainable for most buyers, the Gravity does promise to push the envelope for both EV range and interior luxury in an SUV package.

Of course, the proof will be in how the Gravity performs in real-world testing. We'll have to wait for production to start in late 2024 before we can fully evaluate Lucid's claims on our test track. The Air sedan has already impressed in many regards, although it has suffered some quality control issues that we hope don't affect the Gravity.

For luxury SUV buyers interested in cutting-edge EV range and performance, the ambitious Lucid Gravity warrants a spot on the shortlist. It may not have the off-road ruggedness of some competitors, but the technology and refinement look highly compelling for an ecologically-minded premium utility vehicle.
