90 years ago, FBI and local law enforcement attempted to apprehend all 5 members of the John Dillinger Gang at Little Bohemia. Civilians were killed, terrorized and kidnapped during the operation and gang's escape. Law enforcement officers also paid a heavy price, with one FBI agent killed, and another FBI agent and local constable sustaining serious wounds. On August 24, 1924 the Community of Manitowish Waters, with numerous special partners celebrated the lives and sacrifice of the fallen and injured with a historic marker from the Wisconsin Historical Society. Politicians, FBI agents, state officials, residents and visitors proudly acknowledge the critical role of law enforcement plays to protect our community from criminals. The entire Dillinger gang were dead within a year. We honor the service of the men and women who protect our communities over the decades and today.
