Cologne to Heidelberg:

Train from Cologne Hauptbahnhof, I went via ICE 1548
Tip: Sit on the left side of the train to get view of Rhine river all along

Take tram or bus:
Tram 24 from Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof to Betriebshof
Then 6-7 mins walk to Marriott hotel

Schloss castle:
bus no. 35 from Betriebshof to Bismarktplatz
bus no. 32 directly at Rathaus, entrance to castle ticket counter

Funicular ride:
9€ lower funicular ticket to schloss and next stop going for upper funicular
Upper funicular ticket 5€, panoramic highest view
