On double gates a drop rod, or cane bolt, is necessary to hold the gates in place when closed and on both double and single gates they are useful in holding the gate open. There are a lot of inexpensive bolts out there that just don’t hold up, and then there is Tech Team’s #929 Farm Gate Drop Rod that is the king of the hill. It’s ¾” of solid steel, a full 24” long, and installs in minutes without welding.
