For Ganesh Chaturthi, chocolate modak is a delightful twist on the traditional sweet. Here’s a simple recipe to make them:

Ingredients:

For the Filling:

1 cup grated coconut

1/2 cup jaggery or brown sugar

2 tbsp cocoa powder

2 tbsp chopped nuts (optional)

1 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)


For the Outer Shell:

1 cup rice flour

1 cup water

2 tbsp ghee

A pinch of salt



Instructions:

1. Prepare the Filling:

1. In a pan, heat the ghee and add grated coconut.


2. Add jaggery and cook until it melts and combines with the coconut.


3. Stir in cocoa powder and mix well.


4. Add chopped nuts if desired and cook until the mixture thickens.


5. Let it cool.




2. Prepare the Outer Shell:

1. In a pan, heat water and ghee.


2. Add rice flour and salt, stirring continuously until the mixture starts to come together.


3. Cover and let it cook on low heat for a few minutes.


4. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Knead to form a smooth dough.




3. Assemble the Modak:

1. Divide the dough into small balls.


2. Flatten each ball into a small disc, place a spoonful of filling in the center, and shape it into a modak (dumpling) using a modak mold or by hand.


3. Place the shaped modaks in a steamer and steam for about 10-12 minutes.




4. Serve and Enjoy:

Allow them to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your chocolate modaks!
