Today's ridiculous Pokemon deep dive will have us following the incredible Gen 3 Pokemon Zigzagoon in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, as we take a deeper look at this lovable creature who's part of an archetype that's always been dealt a bad hand. Does Zigzagoon have what it takes to rise above its status as a lowly Rattata clone? Let's find out.

Ever since the Inclusion of Rattata and Pidgey in Pokemon Red and Blue, every generation of creatures has included a similar generic rat and generic bird. This archetype of creature has something of an unfortunate history, as they are largely to be used as training Pokemon and later into the games will mainly use, if any at all, as field move wielders who get the player where they need to go. While perhaps weaker in battle, these are a dependable bunch who are always ready to aid their adventuring trainers- they do a lot for us.

Zigzagoon and its evolution Linoone are examples of such creatures. The generic rat of Gen 3, its a Pokemon that has using HMs and being a support Pokemon seemingly baked into its design, and has resulted in a species that near everyone is probably familiar with. It uses field moves, it collects items with its ability, and its always there for us- making every sacrifice along the way for the greater good of the team.

But there may just be a lurking giant beneath this friendly facade, and we'll explore it all in full today as we see what this BEAST is really capable of. Through a lifetime of sacrifice given new meaning, this Route 1 Rat may just be Pokemon's Bravest Warrior. Let's dive in.
