In February 2022, opposition politician Ilya Yashin openly spoke out against the war and declared that he would never leave Russia. In December, he was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison under a law prohibiting "discreditation of the armed forces."
Since May 17, 2024, for over a month, Yashin has been held in solitary confinement (SHIZO). His scheduled family visit was canceled, and there have been no updates on his health condition.
