Why did you move to Japan in the first place?

If there's one thing that foreigners are used to hearing on a semi-regular basis (besides "nihongo jouzu"), it's "Why did you come to Japan?" I've answered this question countless times and each time, I felt that my story was a bit difficult to tell in a brief interaction with a stranger. Since I moved to Tokyo and have been growing my YouTube channel, I have been fortunate to appear on some Japanese YouTubers' channels. Of course, these YouTubers asked me the same question. When I read the comments on their videos, I noticed that many Japanese people were intrigued by my story, though I hadn't gone into much detail; I knew that I had to tell it myself.

This video is my response to a recent poll I made on my community page, where people voted for the content they'd like to see from On The World Stage. The choice that won the majority of the votes was "Telling Stories About My Life in Japan." Of course, I wouldn't have any stories about my life in Japan to share if it weren't for the first story, which I share in this video. This series is called "Japan Storytime" and will be a new playlist on my channel.

All of the photos featured in this video were taken by my dad in 1994 - he kindly let me use them.
